Insurance Companies must consider loss assessor involvement

02/07/2007

Post, the insurance industry trade magazine, has highlighted the positive effect of appointing a loss assessor to assist in claim presentation.

Chris Ray comments "how can the client receive fair and impartial treatment from their insurer when their claim is dealt with by a professional appointed by that insurer who, with the best will in the world, cannot adequately advise the insured as to their full entitlement under the policy terms due to the evidently increasing pressure to save costs?"

In cases where liability for a claim has been repudiated by either the insurer or their representative, loss assessors can, following their appointment by the insured or their broker, try and reverse that decision if they feel it is incorrect. This happens regularly - clearly this cannot be a satisfactory situation for a business when customer care and fair treatment is paramount.

Clearly, this may lead to their settlement under the insurance contract being different to that which they may have received if they had not appointed a loss assessor.
